Gay Bars aren’t ‘Gay’ anymore

The local gay bar that my gay friends and I usually go to has turned into a straight bar.

That might be an exaggeration but the ratio of gays to straights seemed to be pretty even, and this surprised me.

There is an ongoing debate the last few years on how ‘gay’ a gay bar should be. These spaces were created as a safe haven to be free and open about your sexuality at times of discrimination.

The argument is that it would be wrong to reverse-discriminate, after the hardships that the LGBT community went and continue to go through, to then tell straight people to “get out”.

Although, another perspective is that straight people are able to go to ANY bar in the world and be their utter-whole self ,sexually and personally, so give gays back their safe spaces.

Let’s take Miss Swan’s advice.
